JESCO
Jesco is a private company originally formed by Johnson Engineering Co. Ltd in 1975.
We are often asked, “What does Jesco mean?”
The name JESCO was derived from the first letters of the parent company, Johnson Engineering Co. An ‘S’ was added after engineering to signify sales, and so the name became JESCO, which stands for Johnson Engineering Sales Company.
Jesco was formed as a sales company, but the complexity of hydraulics and the overwhelming demand for hydraulic servicing soon had customers demanding service. After just two years, the building at 210 Clyde Street was altered, and the service division from J Johnston was relocated to the Jesco building. From then on, Jesco operated in sales and service as a division of J Johnston.
Since its inception, Jesco has undergone some major changes and has been involved in the service and or component supply to an extraordinarily diverse range of clients. We have serviced everything from:
The ships and fishing boats plying our coastlines
Wind and hydro-electric power generation
Huge equipment used in the exploration, smelting and mining industries
All types and sizes of crane servicing
All aspects of the timber industry
Plus, everything in between, right down to the tiny hydraulic rams used by our rescue services!
While most of our clients are based within Southland and Otago, we have worked for clients throughout New Zealand as well as a growing list of international clients. We have supplied valves to NZFX, who manufacture equipment for the film industry, supplied specialized seal kits to Deep sea oil rigs working in the Gulf of Mexico, completed service work for Emperor Gold in Fiji, and supplied and installed hydraulic components on projects bound for Bahrain and Dubai.
